Bobo Thwana Sibiya comes from a cooking and baking family.
Ms Sibiya, who started baking at the young age of 12, is the owner of Bobo Cakes and Catering.
In standard 9, now grade 11, I would take orders for Swiss rolls, banana cakes and biscuits from my classmates. I would bake on Sundays and deliver on Mondays.
Bobo says she did the same in every company that she worked for, but things changed in the last company she worked for when colleagues started placing orders.
When I was about to leave a Facebook page, I saw a friend asking for salad recipes. I wanted to share but I had to send a request to group admin and I was accepted …oh my… that’s where I saw cake decorating. I started to check out You Tube, bought some cake decorating books.
Bobo says two colleagues ordered designer cakes and that’s when Bobo’s Cakes was born and she then resigned from her job.
In just 3 months one lady contacted me and asked that I teach her. She was struggling and not getting a job. I offered her lessons even though I was still a baby myself in the field, but I told myself if this was to help her make some money let’s do it. I did not even charge her.
Then baking classes started to grow from strength to strength.
Nothing gives me joy than seeing someone bake for the very 1st time in their life, and the joy on their face.
Bobo intends to start offering cooking classes soon.
I released a cook book in 2020 during lockdown, something I never really thought much about, though people were asking for a cookbook. Soon I’ll also be releasing a baked goodies and cakes cookbook.
